Launched in 2003, the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme is a global framework designed to prevent conflict diamonds from entering the legitimate rough diamond trade. It brings together governments, industry, and civil society, and requires shipments of rough diamonds to move under government-controlled certification systems. Today, the Kimberley Process includes 60 participants representing 86 countries and accounts for approximately 99.8% of global rough diamond production.
