Secure Payment Authentication

3-D Secure is an advanced security system used during online payments to help protect you from fraud. It works by verifying that the person making the purchase is the rightful cardholder, adding an extra layer of authentication beyond standard card details.

Payment methods accepted

3-D Secure adds an extra level of protection to online transactions by allowing your bank to confirm your identity before approving a payment. This helps prevent unauthorised use of your card and reduces the risk of fraud for both you and the retailer.

During checkout, your bank may ask you to verify your identity using a one-time password (OTP), a banking app approval, or biometric methods such as fingerprint or face recognition. In many cases, modern 3-D Secure can also run silently in the background with no extra steps if the transaction is considered low risk.

3-D Secure is now part of a newer system called EMV 3-D Secure, used globally by major card networks. The older names have been updated:“Verified by Visa” is now called “Visa Secure”“Mastercard SecureCode” is now called “Mastercard Identity Check”
